What is an ePortfolio?
A portfolio is a collection of student work that demonstrates the student's efforts, progress, and achievements that are gathered over the course of a student's academic career. An ePortfolio is an electronic version of a portfolio. These items, stored as "artifacts," may be assembled into various formats that can be:
- shared with potential employers
- used as evidence of accomplishments/skills for applications
- used to create a personal portfolio that can be shared
- used in University assessment or program accreditation

We recommend the following settings and software requirements when using ePortfolio. Please use the most current version of the browser listed.

Where to login
Please go to https://eportfolio.txstate.edu and enter your Texas State NetID and password to log into the ePortfolio system.
If you have issues with your NetID or password, please contact the IT Assistance Center (ITAC) at 512.245.4822.
What you will see once logged in
Once logged in, you will see a series of tools along the left side of the screen. The tools may include:
Home: This is the landing page for most roles.
Courses: This tool contains all of your courses and other course-specific information (e.g., assignments or course binders).
Artifacts: This tool contains all of the documents, files, and forms you have uploaded or created.
Portfolios: This tool houses any portfolios you have created or student portfolios that you assess.
Field Experience: This tool contains the information related to any field experiences/internships pertaining to you.
Applications: This tool houses various applications for program admission or field experience, internship, and other special programs.
Please Note: Not all tools will be available to all users, and certain roles will have access to other tools.
How do I set my Preferences?
You can set your view to High Contrast or change your default role in ePortfolio.
To set your appearance to High Contrast, follow these steps:
- From the Home tool, click Preferences in the left menu.
- Under Accessibility, check the box next to Enable high contrast, then click Save.
You can change your default role, follow these steps:
From the Home tool in your current default role, click Preferences in the left menu.
- Click View in the left menu.
- Select the role you wish to be your default role.
- Click Save.
Common terms used in ePortfolio
Artifact: An electronic form that collects and stores a variety of student and faculty work, from general files to syllabi to lesson plans, which users can attach to assignments, course binders, field experience binders, and portfolios.
Assessment: The evaluation, appraisal, or measurement of a student’s knowledge and skills. Also the area where a student can view the rubrics attached to assignments.
Assignment: Any task, such as an essay, lesson plan, or reflection, assigned to a student and sent through a course.
Pending Task: An area of the Home tool that reminds you of items that you need to complete.
Course Binder: An electronic version of a binder notebook in which students can upload and store artifacts and documents within previously defined tabs.
